Notice Under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA)


Miami-Dade County does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulations promulgated by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under Title I of the ADA.

Effective Communication

Miami-Dade County will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services to ensure effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in Miami-Dade County's programs, services, and activities. Such aids and services may include, but are not limited to, sign language interpreters, documents in alternate format, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing, or vision impairments.


Modifications to Policies and Procedures

Miami-Dade County will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcome in Miami-Dade County offices, even where pets are generally prohibited.


Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a Miami-Dade County program, service, or activity, should contact the ADA Coordinator of the applicable County department as soon as possible, but no later than 48 hours prior to the scheduled event.


The ADA does not require Miami-Dade County to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden. Complaints that a Miami-Dade County program, service, activity or facility is not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed to the ADA Coordinator of the applicable County department.

Miami-Dade County will not charge a qualified individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policies or procedures.


In accordance with the requirements of Title II of the ADA, Miami-Dade County will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, activities or facilities.

The County has adopted the World Wide Web Consortium’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, Level AA (WCAG 2.1, AA) as its standard and has implemented processes, that aim to continually improve the accessibility and usability of our digital services. Miami-Dade County ADA Office

The Miami-Dade County ADA Office is responsible for coordinating efforts with all County departmental ADA Coordinators on ensuring compliance with Title II of the ADA. The County ADA Coordinator meets with the Commission on Disabilities Issues monthly to discuss issues affecting people with disabilities living in Miami-Dade County. Who can file a complaint
Anyone who feels they have been discriminated against on the basis of disability by Miami-Dade County in the provision of a County program, service or activity has the right to file a complaint. Contact the ADA Coordinator for the department providing the program, service or activity. The County will work with the individual to resolve the complaint on an informal level. If that is not possible, the individual may file a formal ADA grievance as per the County's ADA Grievance Procedure.

How to file a complaint
The County's ADA Grievance Procedure is the mechanism by which individuals may file complaints of disability discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The Internal Service Department, ADA Office, 111 NW 1st Street, 24th Floor, serves as the conduit between the grievant and the department against whom the grievance is made. Formal ADA grievances can be submitted online to the ISD ADA Office, or in writing by mail. The ISD ADA Office will assist anyone who needs help in completing the form. This ADA Grievance Procedure does not apply to complaints of employment discrimination.
